Datuk Lee Chong Wei defeated arch-rival Lin Dan (UPDATED)

Chong Wei Retains All-England Title

KUALA LUMPUR, March 14 (Bernama) -- Malaysian badminton ace Datuk Lee Chong Wei defeated arch-rival Lin Dan of China in straight sets of 21-17, 21-17 to retain the men's singles title in the prestigious All-England Championship in Birmingham Sunday night.

The World Number and top seed was in control throughout with the Chinese ace having no answer to Chong Wei's superior performance.

There was never a point Chong Wei was seriously threatened except in the second set when Lin Dan managed to pull level at 17-17 in the second set before bowing out in 52 minutes.

However, Malaysia's men's doubles pair Koo Kien Kat-Tan Boon Heong were not so fortunate, going down to Demark's Mathias-Boe Carsten Morgensen in 21-15, 18-21, 18-21 and thus failed to pick their second men's doubles title after they won it for the first time in 2007.

The women's singles title was won Wang Shixian of China who defeated Japan's Eriko Hirose in 24-22, 21-18 while the women's doubles final was won by her compatriots Wang Xiaoli-Yu Yang after the duo easily overcame Japanese pair Mizuki Fujii/Reika Kaiiwa in 21-2, 21-9.

China's Xu Chen/Ma Jin won the mixed doubles, defeating the Thai pair of Sudket Prapakamol/Saralee Thoungthongkam in 21-13, 21-9.
