(Credit: Samsung) Welcome back to our final day of coverage of Samsung's monitor preview for early 2011. On Monday and Tuesday, respectively, we took a long look at the company's new 3D offerings and its new Central Station. Today we take a look at its LED monitor refresh.
At CES this year, Samsung announced two new LED-based monitors as followups to its PX2370 model from 2010.
The 550 and 350 will come in a variety of screen sizes as well as both a normal monitor configuration and a monitor/HDTV combo.
Here are the basic specs:

  • Monitor: S27A550H (27-inch), S23A550H (23-inch), S20A550H (20-inch), S27A350H (27-inch), S24A350H (24-inch), S23A350H (23-inch)
  • 1,920x1,080-pixel resolution (1,600x900 for S20A550H)
  • Response Time: 2ms
  • Contrast ratio:1,000: 1
  • Viewing angle: 170 degrees/160 degrees
  • Connectivity: HDMI, VGA
  • WLED backlit
  • Touch of Color

  • HDTV/Monitor Models: T27A550 (27-inch), T24A550 (24-inch), T23A550 (23-inch), T22A550 (22-inch), T24A350 (24-inch), T23A350 (23-inch)
  • 1,920x1,080-pixel resolution
  • Response Time: 5ms
  • Contrast ratio:1,000: 1
  • Viewing angle: 170 degrees/160 degrees
  • Connectivity: HDMI, USB 2.0, RF In, Audio Out, Digital Audio Out, PC Audio In, Component, Composite, Ethernet
  • WLED backlit
  • Touch of Color
These will be marketed to less demanding users and will be priced towards the lower end, with the 350 sporting the lowest prices of the two series.
The monitors aren't made using premium TN panels. As such, we don't expect them to cover 100 percent of the sRGB color space, like the 750 and 950 will.
My impressions after seeing the 550 and 350 at CES was that neither sported as thin of a panel as the PX2370. Samsung believes ultra-thin panels have become a less important feature and since these will be priced as to be appealing to the lower end user, the company states it found no real benefit in continuing to push this particular envelope.
Other design changes is the very eye-catching transparent footstand on the the 550, offering a bit of flare to a monitor that in many ways look a lot like what came last year.
Look for each of these in the first quarter of 2011. Exact pricing has yet to be announced.
